Hello from Johannesburg, South Africa. It’s my very first time here and I’m so excited to be able to cross yet another country off my bucket list. Since we got here, I have been doing my best to soak up the culture and history. The flight was crazy long (22 hours on the plane, not including connections), I’m jet lagged to the point of delusion but sleep is for the weak and we only have two days here- so we’ve decided we want to visit the Lion Park, Rosemead Market and Constitution Hill.
It’s feed day so we got to see the lions devouring a carcass from a few feet away in a jeep.. We also got to pet some baby cubs, fed Ostriches and I faced my fear of Giraffes.
Right before the airport we dashed to the famous Rosemead Cultural Market to pick up gifts and some local trinkets.
And stopped by Constitution Hill, which houses a museum of South African history and also the prison grounds where Nelsom Mandela was held before trial, Ghandi was also held there in 1908. Mandela’s cell was closed but I got to take a photo by door. I’m sure I’ll be back again one day in the future and hopefully will be able to go in the cell.
